I truly believe twin-stick shooters are one of the greatest gaming inventions.
Being able to move one direction and fire another, all while dodging enemies and bullets, makes for a gameplay experience that doesn’t really get old.
My first experience with it was Beat Hazard, which I still play to this day. My most recent, however, is one that’s really sticking with me.
PixelJunk Shooter, from the same people that made the beautiful PixelJunk Eden and the yet-to-be-played-by-me PixelJunk Monsters, is a twin-stick shooter that blends quick, reactive gameplay (much like the shoot-em-ups of old), and goal-based levels.
